Every young man has a dream, a dream that drives him to explore the unknown and figure out how he can contribute to humanity and spend his life. Like all young people, the founder and co-founder of the Microfoundation Institute share similar life stories. Through trial and error, one man holds a Ph.D. in Marketing and a Ph.D. in Management Science and Engineering. Another man has a Ph.D in strategy and rigorous training in computer information systems.
In the dissertation, one man argues that the microfoundation of competitive advantages lies in marketing strategy, knowledge creation, and product innovation, while another intends to explore entrepreneurial opportunities in both theory and practice, serving as Chief Information Officer (CIO) and creating various ventures.
The theory and practice of both men influence how researchers conduct their research and managers navigate their organizational leadership dynamics, ultimately leading their firms. Together, their team aims to deliver rigorous, evidence-based insights and solutions in strategic thinking to businesses, fostering sustainable, organic growth for customers, employees, and other stakeholders.

Dr. Jifeng Mu holds a Ph.D in Marketing from the University of Washington and a Ph.D in Management Science and Engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong University. Dr. Mu has expertise in marketing strategy, marketing analytics, and innovation and technology management. Dr. Mu publishes in some of the world’s most influential and impactful journals, such as Information Systems Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Industrial Marketing Management, Decision Sciences, R&D Management, and Expert Systems With Applications. Dr. Mu is writing a book on Artificial Intelligence Marketing with Springer Nature. He served as a guest editor for Industrial Marketing Management (2018 – 2022).
Dr. Mu was a professor at Xi’an Jiaotong University and a Visiting professor at the University of Washington. He now teaches at Alabama A&M University, where he is a professor of marketing and serves as a research associate in the Division of Research and Economic Development. He is responsible for the university-wide technology transfer and commercialization, economic impact evaluation, and business college grant portfolio management.
Dr. Mu won best paper awards from conferences such as the American Marketing Association (AMA) Summer and Winter Conferences and the Product Innovation and Management Association (PDMA). ScholarGPS named Dr. Jifeng Mu one of the top .5% researchers worldwide in product innovation management and engineering management, top 3% in marketing, in terms of exceptional research quality, research impact, and research productivity (2024). Dr. Mu consults with worldwide businesses, big and small. Dr. Mu also won a few teaching awards, such as the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching at Alabama A&M University.
